Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) The CTLLS qualification satisfies the government requirement for teachers, tutors and trainers in an Associate Teacher role to hold a Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Associate teachers normally teach in one or more of the following ways: from pre-prepared packs, on a one-to-one basis, on short programmes, or on programmes in one subject, at one level, for one type of learner.
Learning Outcomes You will gain knowledge and understanding of the teacher's role and approaches to teaching and learning, plan learning sessions and manage learning. The achievement of a Level 3 or Level 4 CTLLS will confirm that you have shown a good understanding of the essential aspects of the teacher/trainer role, can organise and manage effective learning and have developed professionally through on-going reflection and evaluation. In particular, you will be able to show: - an understanding of the teaching and learning process, - review different methods of initial assessment, - establish and maintain inclusive learning environments, - plan, deliver and evaluate learning - use appropriate delivery methods - use and evaluate different methods of assessment - reflect on your own practice
Course Modules There are three mandatory units: - Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) - Planning and enabling learning - Principles and practice of assessment In addition, one optional unit must be completed of the following: - Delivering employability skills - Preparing for the mentoring role - Preparing for the coaching role - Equality and diversity - Evaluating learning programmes - Specialist delivery techniques
Career Benefits With a CTLLS you can register with the Institute for Learning (IfL) and work towards professional formation, ATLS, which gives you a Qualified Associate Teacher status in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Teaching Methods We primarily encourage you to learn through discovery and active practice, rather than being reliant on teachers and textbooks. Tasks are designed to respond to individual learning styles and needs, and we offer constructive feedback acknowledging that making mistakes is a crucial part of effective learning. Resources are available on moodle.
Assessment The course is formatively assessed to monitor your progress and help you identify those areas that need extra attention. There are no exams, but you will need to build a portfolio of evidence to show how you meet the assessment criteria.
Transferrable Skills You will develop a degree of self-reflection and begin to recognise your own strengths and weaknesses. Key skills such as problem-solving and working with others as well as functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT are embedded in the course. All of these are skills that allow you to progress in education, training and employment and make a positive contribution to your community.
Progression The PTLLS gives you progression onto the DTLLS, provided you meet the other entry criteria.
